Robert is founder and president of North Star Synergies, Inc., a full-service executive development strategy firm specializing in creating strategies to promote and sell products and services throughout the United States. He created the Denver-based international firm in April 2011. Robert and his teams have helped merchandise more than $20 billion of residential, resort, retail, recreational, commercial, institutional, industrial and governmental real estate as well as other business products and services.

Gunnar Baldwin, CLIPP
Water Efficiency Specialist, TOTO

Gunnar Baldwin was educated at St. Paul’s School, Yale and Brown Universities and taught college preparatory mathematics and coached crew for 16 years before leaving teaching to pioneer his interest in water conservation and wastewater reduction in 1976. He pioneered the first code approved low consumption toilet and lobbied for incentives for water conservation for 15 years.  He started with TOTO in 1990 when they first opened a subsidiary in the USA after working for their importer for several years. He served on the ANSI Vitreous China standard committee until TOTO USA was formed and has served in numerous roles at TOTO during its twenty-six year history of growth and industry technology leadership. He is now a consultant to TOTO as their Water Efficiency Specialist. Gunnar has represented the company on several green building committees including the first USGBC water efficiency technical advisory group. He was a charter director of the Alliance for Water Efficiency. Gunnar’s experience spans the period from before the beginnings of interest in water efficiency to the present.
 
During the past seven years Gunnar has taken a great interest in Universal Design, and has a mission to see that both socially and environmentally sustainable strategies should become standard best practices in all good design. He has been an advisor to the Living In Place Institute and is one of their first Certified Living in Place Professionals.
 
On a charitable note, between 2003 and 2010, Gunnar and his wife, Heather, spent their eight vacations rowing their open water double scull over 2300 miles along the Intracoastal waterway, various canals and rivers. Their TOTO sponsored effort provided toilets and lavs for Habitat for Humanity affiliates from Key West, FL to Canada while close to $100,000 in pledged donations was raised by the Baldwin’s followers.

Barbara Barton, CMKBD, CLIPP, has over 35 years of experience in the Kitchen and Bath Industry, having worked for several Kitchen/Bath dealerships, managing a Bathroom Showroom for five years and then 15 years in the Appliance industry.  Since the year 2000, Barbara has grown her own Independent Designer business in the remodeling area and focusing on the Boomer target market.  She was one of the first Designers in Colorado to earn the Certified Aging in Place Specialist, CAPS designation in 1992.
Having won a local First Place award for a Universal Design Bathroom in 2015 inspired her to continue in the specialty that has impacted so many clients. She became the fourth person nationally to receive the new Certification of Living in Place Professional, CLIPP training in 2015.  Attending several CLIPP trainings and being on their Advisory Board since its inception has broadened the scope, examples and impact of this vision for our industry.
Thru the CLIPP training, collaborations with Occupational Therapists, Interior Designers, Contractors, Home Inspectors and Real Estate professionals has broadened the resources and knowledge affecting our Kitchen and Bath Industry. She has been newly inspired and wants to continue to serve our profession as well as our homeowners.




Monique Chabot, OTD, OTR/L, CLIPP, CAPS,
Philadelphia University



Monique has worked in home health for over 6 years, during which time, she developed a passion for home design for seniors. Dr. Chabot currently works as an assistant professor of Occupational Therapy at Philadelphia University, where she often works on interprofessional design projects with architecture and interior design. She was chosen to be part of the American Occupational Therapy Association Emerging Leaders program, during which time she worked on increasing the knowledge base of Occupational Therapists on home modifications.
 
Dr. Chabot has published on the topic and created an online webinar on kitchen modifications, in addition to moderating a monthly discussion topic on home modifications on an online forum. She maintains a blog based on her doctoral work which supports collaboration between occupational therapists and design professionals, entitled Collaborative Home Design for Seniors (www.homedesignforseniors.com).

Since moving to Colorado in September, 1978, Robert has received numerous civic and industry awards. The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Denver honored him as its top “Sales and Marketing Director of the Year” in 1979, again in 1980, and as its “Man of the Year” in 1982. In 1998, Robert also won the “Associate of the Year” award. Robert was recognized with the 2013 Legend Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sales and Marketing.

In 1982, he was recognized by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as the “National Marketing Director of the Year”. Robert’s biggest honor is The William “Bill” Molster Award which is awarded to the most outstanding sales and marketing professional in the nation by the nation’s leading building trade association of 150,000 plus companies, the NAHB. Robert is the only person to receive this award twice (1996 and 2002). The “2011 Trina Ripley Excellence in Education Award” was presented to Robert for outstanding lifetime achievement in educating new home sales and marketing professionals. Robert’s most recent awards include the 2014 Master Certified Sales Professional of the Year Award, as well as the 2014 leading membership and retention recruiter for the NAHB.

Among Robert’s other honors have been “Economic Developer of the Year” (1979), “Marketeer of the Year” (1981) by the Metro North Chamber of Commerce in Denver, the “President’s Award” (2002) from the Colorado Association of Home Builders, and recognition by the International Real Estate Trade Organization for his contribution and devotion to the real estate industry (2005). Robert helped establish the Adams County Economic Council and founded both the Douglas County Economic Development Council and the Teller County Economic Development Council. He was honored for his work in founding the Sales and Marketing Council of the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Colorado Springs, which was named the “Best New SMC” in the nation for 1983. Robert also created and developed the first centralized Parade of Homes for the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Denver in 1986, which was awarded the #1 Public Relations Campaign by NAHB. This event has since become nationally renowned as the industry model.

Robert is a Past Chairman of the Sales and Marketing Councils of the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Denver and Colorado Springs. He also served 19 years as Public Affairs Chairman and member of the Board of Directors for the Colorado Association of Home Builders. Robert has earned a Master in Residential Marketing (MIRM) and is a member of the Institute of Residential Marketing, an exclusive organization representing the country’s leading sales and marketing professionals, of which he is a past President. In 2008, Robert was inducted into the Institute of Residential Marketing College of Fellows. Robert is a past Chairman of the National Sales and Marketing Council (NSMC) of the NAHB. He is certified by the NAHB Education Department as one of four Master Train the Trainers nationwide, and is also certified to teach 16 NAHB management, marketing and sales courses.

He is a nationally recognized leader in membership recruitment and retention, advertisement, and sponsorship sales for the NAHB totaling more than $60 million in sales. Today, Robert ranks as the number three all-time membership recruiter among millions, with 2,670 spike credits. He was recently acknowledged as the 2014 Spike of the Year among 16,000 recruiters.

Robert also serves as a Board of Director for Environmental Service Professionals, a mold and moisture management concern. He also serves on the Board of Directors of UVAIRx, a manufacturer of healthy indoor air quality products.

Robert is a past member of the National Association of Real Estate Editors. He is a regularly published contributor to Builder-Architect Magazine, the NAHB’s NSMC Sales & Marketing Ideas, and has co-authored the book Marketing for Remodelers: Building Business Leads.

Robert has a B.A. in Labor-Management Relations from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.

Robert and his best friend, Penny, have been married for 42 years. They have two incredible sons, Jason and Alan.
